Dunn Residence Remodel
The Dunn’s moved from a lovely contemporary home into a one level non-descript ranch in neighboring Barrington on a large lot with room to breath. The house had been poorly sited very low to the ground and included a one car garage, low ceilings and little light. Our challenge was to take this dark rancher and create a light fulled open and roomy house for the couple, ideal for living and entertaining guests. An artist, Mr. Dunn required a painting studio and hobby room to do furniture restoration.
Classic Craftsman
The house needed complete removal of all finishes, and the open design includes a front facing open dormer over the living area, a single existing fireplace as opened at each end to create a see thru gas appliance to the dining room area. The main addition to the left and rear of the house was the kitchen and great room, with it’s souring cathedral ceilings and glass walls. A large bluestone patio with retaining walls shield the property from neighbors and includes a well designed drainage system to divert water from the upper part of the rear yard toward the front of the property.
The finishes are eclectic with a mixture of antiques and contemporary finishes. The house includes two bedrooms, a guest room with bath and larger master suite with private deck/patio walk in closets and laundry area, sitting room with views to the landacaped yard. At the front of the house, we added a two car garage turned toward the street to create a motor court effect. Above, we included an art studio room with access to the entrance foyer area.
Designed in a classic craftsman theme, we added a bit of stone at the front of the house with a painted cement siding, painted black shutters and white trim finish off a classic appearance to the house.
The house was constructed by Legnola Builders of Haddonfield. Landscape and hardscape design by Al Masulo of Knowltop Nurseries of Haddonfield.
